Client: Portsmouth City Council

Background: TSL were instructed by Portsmouth City Council to partner with Alumasc Roofing Systems to complete a condition survey of the flat roofs at Sparrow Close. Core sample analysis was completed which identified the existing waterproofing system to have failed with moisture found within the existing system. Ponding water was apparent within the gutters and existing fall were insufficient. Further core samples to the field area found the existing system had reached the end of its serviceable life but in a suitable condition to be overlaid, thus offering the client a commercially advantageous solution to their failing flat roofs.

Scope Of Service: Strip up of existing central gutters, 86m², with bespoke designed tapered insulation scheme to improve both the thermal performance of the area and falls within the roof to enhance the water drainage. Main roof area, 792m², was overlaid with flat board insulation to improve the thermal performance of the whole roof to comply with Building Regulations Part L. Alumasc’s ‘Derbigum Olivine’ system was utilised due to its CO2 neutralising properties assisting Portsmouth City Council with their carbon footprint reduction targets. All of which was covered by a comprehensive guarantee for 35 years giving the client peace of mind.

TSL were involved from an early stage to provide technical expertise to assist Alumasc Roofing Systems in compiling a suitable design brief for the project supported by budget prices to assist Portsmouth City Council. TSL were chosen due to their status as a ‘Tier-1’ contractor on the PCC Flat roofing framework agreement.

Building remained occupied throughout the project which TSL had to make allowances for within their health & safety procedures and project program. A key driver for the client, was to ensure the residents remained unimpacted throughout the project, which TSL achieved through regular communication.

Project was procured through Main Contractors due to other elements being completed to coincide with the roofing package. TSL secured the work through their quality and price submission.

The contractor and client were ecstatic with the quality of the project, being delivered on time and within budget.
